The All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren has been held since 1961, and the Mathematics round is traditionally considered the most popular of all the 24 subjects. To become a participant of the final stage, pupils should have passed through the school, municipal and regional stages. Although more than 2 million people had taken part in the school stage, only 450 best participants from the regions were selected for the final one.
